newport and detroit lake

awhile back we took a weekend trip up to detroit lake for the day. it was a nice surprise as to how close it was and how nice of an area it was. the kids and dogs loved playing in the water and it was nice to get out of the heat (it was around 100 in salem). the next day we headed the opposite direction and went to newport to the aquarium and beach - again another nice day trip. i am starting to have a more favorable opinion of salem - but that is for another time.
